You want to put a reminder for people to update their pop-up blockers?

Good man! I knew you were good at heart wink

I hate sites that do that. You might want to rethink if it is a good idea to have that happen to your visitors.

you can find the code at most java scripting sites - but I do agree - no one likes a pop up... my browser has them blocked wink

I would not go into the merit or otherwise of the idea of a popup window here.

You can invoke a simple popup through an Onunload event as here:

Code: [copy]

Most popup blockers would stop a popup like this.

Why's that?

Someone can seriously damage their site by introducing anti-social elements; isn't it a 'good thing' to warn those who may not realise?

On the other hand, someone who is confident that their visitors may put up with anti-social elements may NOT realise that if they provoke visitors to use pop-up blockers, they may find their site ceases to work properly.

Simple questions sometimes have serious consequences!

Occasionally such a 'simple question' is asked by someone I am pretty sure knows these consequences - but others reading may not, so I try to give a fuller answer than the OP asked.

quad, if your site is the one in your profile, you should not be advising anyone of anything frankly.

K - no need to get personal; that always says more about yourself that the ones you pick on wink

But if it makes you happy, several of my sites are very poorly optimised; they do the job as they are, so I don't give them the time they deserve. It's content that counts.

You'd be unwise to take that site as a sign that I "should not be advising anyone of anything frankly" - but you never take my advice anyway, so that's fine by me.

And hows the "Google judges signs by click popularity" theory progressing?

Probably best to go easy on the pop-ups, or you'll have no popularity to measure wink

You'll get it sooner or later, even if you're "too good" for my help.

This is indeed the right place to discuss both the techniques, and the merits, or otherwise, of using them.

To fail in that would be a gross dis-service to the reader.

Im not attacking you or wasnt, I was defending myself. Your advice isnt bad, you just dont seem to have an open mind on SEO. Click Popularity was a THEORY, I had which after testing appears not to have the affect that I thought it would. I never said it definitely worked, I merely allowed for the possibility that it MIGHT. NOt sure why that is so difficult to grasp. What if it had worked? You would have never know and you jumped all over me the second I suggested the possibility. Thinking outside the box is extremely critical in SEO and internet marketing. Dont lock yourself down with pseudo morality.Thats all im saying, not trying to be confrontational but you talk a lot of %#!@ aimed in my direction and have that awful site in your profile hard for me not to point it out.

Psudo morality? Huh?

You talk about 'morality', while you keep your site secret and, uninvited, sneer at mine?

I'm quite capable of thinking outside any box you care to name - you aren't, however.

You just think that you are the only person to have come up with your 'theory' - whereas it probably occurs to everyone at some point ... but they have the sense to realise that it is simply rubbish, as it would be so easy to manipulate - and if it worked, we'd all have been doing it for ten years.

As you learn (IF you learn), you'll find that most theories based on the premise that SEs are stupid are ... stupid.

Your sneers at my site simply confirm your ignorance; my site does exactly what it supposed to do, including, as it happens, being at Google #1 for its only conceivable key phrase.

No great achievement; I'm not claiming it is. It has no real competition. But why would I put time and energy into ruining a site that does *exactly* what it was built to do? Especially as the message of that site (and much that I believe) is that over optimization is at the root of many SEO problems.

I'd much prefer to put my energy - and skills - into sites that need help. But you couldn't begin to understand that!

Now, until you have the guts to let me assess YOUR 'site', please just leave my sites - and me - alone.

Your co-operation is much appreciated. wink

I am more than happy to leave you *well* alone - but I will correct you when you make wild guesses that could get people into difficulties. Sorry, but if you advise irresponsibly - and you often do - you cannot expect to go unchallenged.

I have dozens of clients. Your site looks like it was designed by a child. I am done "fraternizing" with the likes of you, it is boring. You are clearly not a professional in this field and I am not wasting any more of my time educating you.

OK guys, no need to go attacking each other. We're all here to learn. wink

Now lets give hugs (or shake hands) and make up bigsmile

With that said, popups of that type are generally blocked because of abuse by advertisers.

Prowler's code should work.
