When you say transparent edges...do you actually mean edges, or are you asking how to make a transparent .gif?

If meaning edges, probably the best way to go is to duplicate the layer and work from there - either manually with brushes or eraser or with a photoshop plugins such as extensis photoframes.

yes edges. thought there may have been an object transparency tool like corels. seems I will still need a combo of graphics progs to do a lot of things. I will try the plugins and see how it goes. Thanks for the help. smile

If you are talking of fading from an image to transparent there is a tool in the floating toolbar that looks like a rainbow rectangle (best way I can desribe it). This allows you to fade in colors or transparacy... as long as your background is already transparent.

Stevenjm, have you tried cutting the image whilst using a small amount of feather, then pasting into a new transparent window? The more transparency you want, just increase the amount of feather.

erm.. why not the background eraser tool? Hold the left button down on the rubber icon.
