Hi,

I find that 9 times out of 10, I can cut and paste from Word into PSP with no problems but on the 10th time, the photo ends up looking more like a cartoon with flat, unrealistic colours.

Could someone explain to me why this happens and how to fix the problem.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, but that is not the problem. I can continue on happily cutting and pasting for the rest of the day without any problems but am still eft with this one odd photograph that looks like a cartoon.

What you are describing is usually a memory problem, perhaps the file is to big? Have you tried saving it and then opening it directly with the other program?

Yes, I have tried that and I emailed the problem pic back to the client and explained that it was the only one out of 19 that I had trouble with. he said that the same file had caused trouble with his printers in China????

This has happened before with another client who gave me photos and text in Word, in some cases the photos opened with that strange cartoon effect and in others the photos were okay. Always, I could carry on working by putting the problem pic aside and moving on to another. That´s why I know the problem is not memory related.

Also I am working on a new computer with loads of memory...

Would it have anything to do with the photos originally being taken by digital camera?

In this case, I have been able to obtain an alternative picture but I would still like to understand what is happening so´s I can fix it myself the next time.

Is it happening only to one particular photograph? If so, then check the number of colors in it. Also, check the file type. If it's a file type that Word likes and PSP doesn't, then that could be your issue. It could be that it's a WMF file or something like that and PSP just doesn't like that certain file type of that particular file you're dealing with.

Another work-around is to bring it up on your screen and do a screen-capture of it and then edit it in PSP.

Hi,

This might happen to one or two out of 20 photographs - or occasionally with one particular client all his older files were fine but the new ones, which were created with photos from his new diggy camera, it happens every time. That´s why I asked if it might be related to diggy cameras somehow.

Yes. About the file type. If the pic is embedded in a word document how can I tell what type of file it is?

I never thought about the screen capture. I´ll try it.

Thanks all for your help.

By the way if anyone knows the right term for this ´cartoon´ effect, I´d really like to learn it.
