Hi RobPike:

The site I am refering has been indexed since Feb. 2003 and in the past 3 months, it's been doing well. And all the sudden now, it's dropped from the data centers... So...

You are not the only one to face that.
I am sure there are several such cases.

I launched a new site just over 1 week ago. This site was added to www.google.com about 24hrs ago and is appearing in search results.

However when i go to www2 or any other of the google's servers, the site doesn't show up.

What does this mean?

Datacenter # 2 (-sj) is now showing 617,000 yahoo backlinks rather than the 384,000 it has been showing or the 661,000 that is still showing on the other seven datacenters. Maybe this is the "start" or maybe this is just another version of "testing".

Let me clarify - i looked a little further so I'm pretty sure now but not positive if you follow me.

I still see very old data (Feb 7) and url's for domains that are nonexistant at this point in time

I see backlinks from urls with PR2

This leads me to believe that data and the backlinks are still in a testing stage versus what we are normally accustomed to as the 'dance'. no dance yet ... imo.

In the 3 sites I am studying (two new and one old), I see that on the old site, still googlebot is crawling non-stop since beginning of February, and the new ones got picked up on a surface crawl, just a few pages 3 or 4 weeks ago, and that is it. Nevertheless those 2 new sites have very good positions for certain keyphrases that I had intended to, and at certain times, starting on sj, then in all servers except sj, and now the latest is, my new sites don't appear but on sj and on fi (Datacenter 9). I thought it was 8 Datacenters???

Just a guess: Google could be testing, besides other things, the incidence of "fresher" content on top results, and their click rate, with respect to sites that have been top for very long, for a given keyphrase model.

I just did a webPosition Gold check on my keywords in Google for a website of mine ... and 7 keywords have moved up in ranking. This is on the main Google servers. Wouldn't this imply that a dance has taken place? Last time I did this check was about 5 days after the conclusion of last month's dance.

cabbagehead,

That can happen all month due to everflux. No one can realy say if we are in a weird new dance but I dont think so... I think we will see the real dance by the 16th of this month.

"That can happen all month due to everflux."

I believe this is totally new "everflux", besides other aspects.

I have a new page (about a month old) it is now showing (last week or so) in www3 but still not showing in www! So new pages are being incorporated into the data centers.

This new page has two subpages which I don't think are yet showing up. But they show a page rank. How do I know for sure if this is just an estimate or thier real page rank?

Umm, -sj is an old index (2 months?), with newer freshbot results sprinkled in, some spam algos turned off, and old PR and backlink data. Looks like Google are testing some sort of continuous update mechanism rather than a monthly update cycle.
