Does seem like its something to do with freshbot, and fresh data. Ive had basically a continues freshbot crawl over the past few days, and not slow sporadic crawling either, quite aggressive at times, crawling up to 600 - 1000 pages an hour.

Maximus, "everflux" is the term used for the ebb and flow of the placement and/or PR of a site in the SERPs during the update. These fluctuations can show you as #1 one day, and #15 the next.

Hello,
I am very interested in all the discussion above regarding the eratic movement of rankings, however both my sites rankings have remained unchanged for a month now. Does anyone have any ideas why this is?

Not all sites' rank change, so that's normal markk.

Well, I'm new to this whole thing and my site was launched 2 months ago. But, I have no idea what to make of the past week. Starting last Sunday night, all of my new pages were indexed and my site jump to #1 in my category. My traffic increased tremendously. It stayed # 1 till Wednesday, then it went back down to #30 (and my new pages weren't indexed). Then, Thurs - Sun, I was #1 again. Then late last night, I was back to #30. What's going on? When this is all over, will I be #1?

Waiting for this update is killing me. From checking the datacenters, I can see that I will be #1 in my keyword (whoohoo!). I'm trying to be patient but IT'S KILLING ME!

Its started, at least here in Europe. I see www,www2,www3
all showing the same then reverting etc etc. Untill about
15:00 European time all seemed static now I see what appears
to be the copy across/dance occurring.
Anyone Else?

I'm noticing something very odd, when I go to google-dance.com and put in my keywords and search WWW, 2, and 3, if I change the "Results Per Page", it changes the ranking. If I go with 10 results, a particular phrase gives me #10, if I go with 20 results, I'm ranked #14, if I go with 30 results, I'm ranked #15, and so on until 100 results which lands me #17.
Is this normal, or is it new?

Can someone please explain this craziness. The wild results have filtered into www and rankings have completely shifted for almost everyone in our niche. Our site completely disappeared.... lost 90 links.... and the top 5 competiters also fell off the map and lost nearly 200 links each. This is ridiculous...... sorry... i am venting and slowly losing my mind.......

Some people have been talking on another forum that google has gone wrong, found some errors or something in the SERPs or Index in genral and is backdating. Just thought youd like to know what other webmasters make of it all.. It certainly isnt normal behavior even by googles crazy standards..

From reading the posts at webmaster world, and actively watching the alternate DB's at google; it almost seems like google had some major data loss some time recently and is trying to restore it back to a point before the loss happened.
It would explain the loss of several thousand (genuine!) back links we experienced the month before last...any thoughts?

I highly doubt that google has suffered any data loss. I have experienced a gain in backlinks. Data from -sj appears to now be showing on and off again on the main www site. My incoming links are flip-flopping. It looks like some dancing is going on.

whatever it is, But this is for sure that results from sj and www3 will never reflect at www.
If they were to, it would have been there till now, As per the regular Update cycle.
