If your website lost its ranking, have you changed incoming links? Have you changed the title tags, or the density of keywords in your homepage?
If the florida's update's goal was to identify and penalize over-optimized websites, and if they see that the links and titles have been updated since the florida update, then their conclusion might be that the website is indeed optimized by a SEO expert.
On the other hand, if google doesn't see any significant chances on your website since the Florida update, then Google might come to the conclusion that the website is actually not managed by a SEO person, and that the "over-optimized" penalty implemented at the first place is not justified.
Hmm... so what now? are you changning your title tags and your incoming links?

I would like to ask also if some of you have decided to open a completely different website to start from scratch (just in case the OOP Over Optimized Penalty on your current URL is permanent).

Remember, no one except Google really knows if there is an Over Optimization Penalty or any Penalty for link text or whether you need to change your title tags or anything else on your pages.
All of the datacenters are now showing a different number of total results, so the results are still changing and this update is not done yet.
So, before you go ahead and make any MAJOR changes to your sites, I would sit and wait it out.

bh, I agree too, anyone that has been around this game knows this is the fun part (j/k), no but seriously, it is time to sit and hold tight, I'm waiting until I see similar results for a good month or so w/ little volatility before I start formulating ways to change the sites of my clients.

I believe in the sit and wait while making changes philosophy. Yes, the update is not done, but doing nothing at all I believe is a bad move. Do SOME changes but nothing major until the update is done.

Don't just sit around and wait, build more pages and content.

And if you already have tons of pages with lots of content?... I don't see how building more content pages is going to help much, unless you have a virtually content free site.
Don't get me wrong, I believe in lots of content, I just don't see that as a solution.

I'm continuing just as I've always done. Optimizing for the end user with metas that are relevent to content. Existing pages are sitting tight.

I removed the ALT tag, which also contains keywords, from my top logo graphic ... for now. Also added a small Holiday graphic with no ALT tag.

Yes I would definitely remove the alt-tags. They are typically a SEO practise.
I have 4 websites. On two of them, i changed the inbound links, change the page titles and also the content just a bit to make sure i was not reapeating the same keywords too many times on too many pages.
I didn't touch the 2 other websites.
Anybody is doing the same tests?

The alt attribute is a REQUIRED HTML element.
Maybe you should alter the content of the alt attribute, but you should NOT be removing it.

HTML 401 specification
"The alt attribute must be specified for the IMG and AREA elements. It is optional for the INPUT and APPLET elements"
AN alt tag is a must have for every image.

I removed alt content from alt tags (it contained our keywords) and then I went ahead and added myself to some of the directories which are now appearing in the top positions in a google search. Hey, if I don't appear in google anymore, at least I'll appear on the top ranked directories that come up for google now.
Our traffic has dropped maybe 20%, much less than I had expected. We're still getting quite a decent amount from google as people are finding us by using our non-key words as well.
Our competitors also got nailed, so I'm not THAT bothered (i would be more peeved if only our site was penalized).
