What specific criteria does Google use to determine its ranking formula? How much weight does each of the criteria carry?
How can an SEO company get you high rankings if they can’t answer you this question?

thye probably can answer , at least what in their experience works but why should they if you are not paying them anything
Its like if you called a mechanic and asked him to walk you thru fixing your car on the phone for free

The Google algo has over 100 factors in it. No-one really know what they all are, and how the relate to each other. Google changes the game often, and does so without warning. So, no-one can really answer the question.
However, if you read forums such as this one, you can learn enough to be able to do the job yourself, with reasonable results to boot.

I kind of think that 100 factos thing is a bunch of hoopla
I can see the google people sitting around saying
"what are we going to tell all these people wanting to know about our secret algo"
"I don't know just make something up"
"how about we tell them there are 50 things factored in, hey wait lets make it 100 thats a nice round number and will keep them guessing for awhile"

Ummm, I believe that GoogleGuy has stated the exact number >> 124 << in some other forum, quite recently.
Members started a thread listing things that they could think of, and got to way over 50 items without breaking into a sweat.

I don't believe anyone at G is rubbing their hands together thinking of ways to disrupt small businesses, even though it seems that way.

I don't think so eihter but if oyu had thousands of people asking oyu about stuff you cannot tell them the answer to you might say something vague just to shut them up

Well, who really cares about what google is doing in their playing, it isn't working (from a results point of view), changes daily, so is it really worth thinking about it?

Actually, I've heard (from a very reliable source) that it's 126, and from what I know now it's probably closer to 130 now.

As far as SEO goes, there are many cowboys out and about "promising" & "guaranteeing" left right and center, they should be either shot on sight or totally ignored if they claim to have Google's recipe down pat.
