I had a section of my site spidered by Google overnight.
I have planted a php page in the system that emails me with details of the visting browser and I got a report of Googlebot visiting.
Does anyone have any idea when I can expect this content to appear on Google searches?

Sometimes after only about 8 hours, often about 2 or 3 days, and sometimes many weeks.

Well as it happens I just did a search on some of the text that was on my special page. It was designed to be easy to find. It is now in the index.
Great speed of update. I just hope it always works this well and that the new stuff attracts traffic.

Google has doubled the published size of their index in the last few days.
A serch term that returned 12 million results for the last year, grew to 18 million a few days ago, and is now 22 million.
Additionally, there are 9 Nov 2004 or 10 Nov 2004 fresh tags gradually appearing for just about every result for every site.

How did this happen so suddenly?

It went up to 23.3 million a few days later, then went back down to 22 million again.
Google doubled the reported size of their index a few weeks ago, to 8 billion pages.
