    Hey Guys,

I am brand new here but have been doing SEO for about a year and a half. I am working on ranking a website in Google for the keyword "hairstyles" and when I check the top ten in the SERPs, I see a site called hair-factory.com ranked consistently in the top ten.

All of the other competitors have hundreds and some, thousands of backlinks but this one does not. If you do a backlink analysis in Yahoo, this site only has 20 backlinks. Also, take a look at the homepage and there is hardly any text on it. I have been watching them for a year or so and they're consistently in the top ten in Google.

How are they accomplishing this? "hairstyles" is the most competitive term in the hair industry. I don't understand. Can someone please provide some insight?

The days are gone when you judged the success of a site by the number of links; these days, it's quality, not quantity, that counts.

And I am NOT talking about page rank.

Plus the sites that seek thousands are often those that do careless link exchanges - which can cancel out any link benfits instantly.

I have not looked at the site, but if it has strength in many areas, then it will always outrank the link-only sites.

Forget links for a moment - does the site *deserve* to be where it is?

If not, dig deeper ... but chances are it won't be there for long!

The odd thing is that the homepage doesn't even have the keyword on it. I searched for "hairstyles". The title tag is simply "hair-styles" but there is nothing but a few images and an email link on the homepage. The site is from 2001. perhaps domain name has an effect but THAT much of an effect?

It just doesn't quite make the most sense to me. It's the oddball out of all the results and it's been there for about a year.

There are many factors which brings the website Ranking good in SERP . As los-angeles-seo has said quality is much consider then quantity of links.

The age also matter , it is being created on 11-Jan-2000.. , 8 years old domain, the traffic it is getting is good amount, have marketed their website good.

There are many reasons, we cant point out one.

    Cheers

"The odd thing is that the homepage doesn't even have the keyword on it. "

the home page can be returned even when its another page that was matched, although i dont think thats the case with this site as it doesnt mention it much on other pages either.
