    Hello,

I'm a newbie when it comes to SEO. I'm checking out googlebot in my google webmaster tools. Yesterday it said the last time googlebot successfully accessed my home page was on Sep 5, today it says Sep 9th. Is there always such a long delay between when it does access my web page and when it actually reports it?

Just to be clear, yesterday was the 17th and it was showing the 5th as the last time it accessed it, today is the 18th and it is now showing the 9th.

I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to learn how things work.

The other question I have - does that googlebot accessing my home page directly reflect it crawling or indexing or whatever the right term is my entire site or is it really just about the index page?

    Thanks for educating a newbie.

OK - I have the second question figured out - it does seem to know what is on my web site as of the 9th. My web page changes almost every day so I can tell if it doesn't reply to my searches based on new material. I just had my site redone so it will probably take a while for settling to occur. Hopefully they'll start indexing my site more often as technology news gets old fast.

On the plus side - it appears both yahoo and microsoft are checking my page more often.

I have always seen a lag of several days in the data, but for sites that are rarely updated, I see that the lag now has extended out to more than a week for some.

    Good to know - thanks!

Just to make sure I don't screw up any more things, do I need to do anything to get google to search my news section more often or will it just get into a swing as it "sees" how often I update my site?
