you get a pagerank if you get links from other sites with a higher pagerank

sure - you want web sites, directories that are in your web sites field. example - your site is about horses - you want sites about horses, animals and such. Check out their PR.
You may want to spend some time here searching about linking, as it is not a cut and dry area and can get you into hot water with the SE's if over done, abused etc.
PS: I looked at the site listed in your profile, I would suggest you ask for a site review in the correct forum. Also please keep in mind, we ask that you review a few sites listed there in turn.

Having more pages on your site with links to the home page will increase your page rank as well!

That's only partly true ... more depending on what external sites link to deep pages within your site.
It's not a magic solution. If adding a million pages to your site would see the PR of the root page go up massively, everyone would be doing it.

just remember, links for the sake of getting links do not really help
they must be relevant to the content of the page that it is linked too and to the theme of you site.
not all the links should be to your home page, link to content pages that are related to the site you get the link from, deep linking is good
also
getting links from within a content (article, blog) item on a related site is more powerful than getting a link from a directory or links list.

Yen, if you want a site that sells the same thing as you do - not a good idea and most won't. However you can look at other web sites that talk about women's fashion tips and subjects such as those and see if they will link to you.
Is it very important you ask? It really depends on how competitive your business is.
There are more ways then one to catch a tiger
You could write articles about women's fashion and submit them to one of the many article groups, which would include your link.
Submit your site to dmoz.com and other REAL directories - be very careful they are not link farms.
If you search around here you will find a list of some good directories.
Think creative

yenmax the pagerank wont really affect how you will rank its more important to make sure the keyword you want such as lets say "women's silk blouses" is in all the important places on your site such as in the Title, meta description, headings, alt (photo description). to get links maybe you can write some nice articles about your products and submit them to article sites and social bookmarks with a link to your site thats a start, or in directories but make sure they dont look to spammy as a link farm.

How old is your blog
I also see that those links your referring to are outgoing links. You need incoming links from other sites for your PR
Free website/blog builders usually carry a penalty and do not do well on the search engine. As your all sharing the same domain, all of the other sites on that domain will effect your rankings.

Yahoo directory asks for about 300 Dollars per year for inclusion. There are many directories which will insist on some sort of payment for inclusion. There are other free directories too. But keep your eyes open so that you don't end up in bad neighborhood.

Beth,
You mentioned submitting sites to DMOZ.com, but do you happen to know how to get sites accept into the directory? I know I submitted 3 or 4 sites, and never heard back from them. Plus the sites were never listed.
The sites I'm referring to had good listings and the lowest PR was a PR3.
Anyone have any good suggestions?
Thanks ...

MM - I wish I had a straight up answer for you. I don't
DMOZ seems to be "fickle" at times and at other times they are just wayyyyy behind as they are ran by human volunteers.
This is one directory that you submit to and walk away with the attitude they will or they won't add it in...
Just do not resubmit !
Sorry wish I could help you more.

You never get to hear from DMOZ. It is quite normal. Before you submit to DMOZ, you follow their guidelines scrupulously. Sometimes, if you can make a note of the Editor who is in charge of the category to which you have submitted, you can send an email politely telling him/her why your site is noteworthy enough to be included there. Whatever you do, you don't submit to the same category many times. And don't irritate them.
Move on if they don't include you.

Hey Beth and Prowler,
Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
Lol, I was really hoping that someone knew something different than I did about that directory.
Oh well, live and learn I guess ...
