    Sigh!

OK, as it is getting close to the silly season, i.e. to the Google reindex, this can be the October 2002 Google dance thread.

Please do NOT open other threads about the Google dance.

    Thanks, OAC

The Full Moon is tomorrow the 21st, and then Halloween the 31st.

What might happen in those 10 days is quite scary indeed.

I just hope my server doesn't crash this time, like it did last month. My PR went from 4 to 2, and I actually improved the quality and quantity of incoming links to my site. I know its not that great, but I would be happy with a PR 4 again.

I am trying to understand the whole google dance concept...

I have a new site (only up for 5 days) If my site wasn't visited earlier in the month by Googlebot, does that mean that this google dance won't help me?

    Thanks in advance.

Right, google will most likely bypass you unless you have seen googlebot in your logs at some point.

You have submitted the site, right?

Dance may and probably has not begun; howwever google is doing some majar refreshing on sites already there and these are seachable right away. Then a day or two later they disappear. So in a way there is a dance going on all month.

I have moved my site to a new host on oct 13.
Before that date my site had been spidered by Google almost on a daily basis.

From october 13 up to now (oct 21) there was no googlebot at my site. Is there a posibility that my site will be dropped from the index because of my change of host?

To be included in this month's dance, when would your site have needed to be spidered? I mean if you were spidered 1 month, 1 week, or 1 day ago, will all of this be included in this months update?

If your site was not in the last index (because it was dropped) and it was visited by Googlebot this month, does that mean that it will be in this update?

Could someone point me to a thread on the Google dance? I'm a tad bemused by it all, and would appreciate more info on how the dance works...if the search cgi here worked, that would be cool smile

If you want to know if the google dance has started all you have to do is check the sites pointing to Yahoo! If the link count is lower or higher than previous then the dance has begun, no later, no earlier!

Yahoo Link Search on Main data center

Yahoo Link Search on www3 data center

At the moment it counts 657000. I know this has been said countless times and on 99% of these times nobody learns anything new, but someone's gota say it, and it might as well be me.

P.S google dance will (probabily) start between the 25th and the 29th.

When we talk of the Google dance, is this a reference to the spidering that takes place, or the change of indexing? Or do they both happen simultaneously?

How does this Google "dance" relate to daily crawls from Google (not that I get those yet!)? What wd the point of daily crawls if the index only changes monthly?

Still hoping for a link to a thread that explains this "dance"! smile
