Hi. I have done one website and used 'Website Wizard'..pretty basic. I am now wanting to do a more innovative site and I really like the templates on this site. I was wondering how to use a template that you get Online and use a host at the same time. Does anyone know of a hose that allows you to import your own template and helps you to do that and use their services?
I was thinking of using Site Build It. Any advice or tips? I have obviously never done this before. I enjoy the benefits of using a host but need to have my own creativity.

after you download a template you can change the title,headings, etc.... through its source.

the issues with site builders and online builders is that they generally have poor code and little flexibility for making changes for SEO
if you do not know how to make a website, or any html/css at all, try a CMS system
if its the site in your profile, you do need to do something...the code is a mess

I agree about the site builders, but yet I need some help. I am not a web genius. I had an SEO look at my 1st site and he said that it was difficult to work with the code. But, it is not impossible. I have been doing the SEO work myself. You can still add everything you need-all your meta tags.
Anyway, so what would be the proper course to take for someone like me? How do you define a CMS system and is this realistic for a person who is not a web genius??

A CMS is Content Management System. It is what drives many dynamic sites these days. Joomla and even Blogging sofware like WordPress spring to mind when you talk about CMS. There are quite a large number of CMS software around. The above mentioned CMS are free (Open Source). You don't need to be Web Genius to use any of the CMS.
But it is quite a different story when it comes to SEO their code. Most CMS software don't have SEO friendly dispensation straight out of the box. It is a kludge - add ons - often sold at high prices to add.

I agree with prowler except for the last part
you do have do add on a plugin but they are mostly free, and are not a kludge
for those using joomla look up artio patched and joomseo
they are simple and work now, (a year or so ago they did not, and are now actually designed by people who know a little about seo)
cannon 7: the secret to SEO is not in the meta tags, so having the ability to change them is not enough, thus you need more than a site builder
meta tags are not all you need

Well, mj1256, you want to expound on that last part. I have been submitted to many directories (on and off page optimization) and have been told by numerous SEO's that on page optim. is much importante! So, though I am aware that there is more to it, it is important, unless you know a secret?! And I am not being a smart a*s...I do like to learn!
Okay, so now I am in my host (webstie wizard) trying to alter the HTML and they offer no a*sistance and get angry when you ask. Every time I try to put in Title tag, etc, in source code, it erases my text. What gives. So, now I may be looking to transfer my whole site to another host. Any ideas? I know that I need to look into the CMS thing...I will.
I must admit that I feel lost, but I may figure all this out.

as you can see the site builder does not give you the optimization flexibilty that you need
you do need the tags, but on page optimization is more important.
someplace on the forum is a list and their order of importance, you should find it in a search
their is no solution that replaces at least a basic knowledge of html

But meta tags are a part of On-page opt.?! It is the title tags, meta description and meta keywords...image tags if you like and sprinkling your keywords lightly. I have talked to several SEO's and this is what they all say.

oh no...thats just a part of it
did you know that the meta keyword tag is largly ignored by the search engines,
on page opt is not the meta tags
on page opt is your actual content and how it is formated (amongst other things)
