My boss has been in business for a while and we do really well, as a
result we rank in the top three in the organic search listings. When I
started w/ the ppc advertising a few months back i didn't pay too much
    attention to our organic standings.

One of our customers has just had his website re-done and would like to
now how to rank at the top of the search engine without using ppc and
i'm not sure how to answer his question. Are link exchanges the best
way to acheive his goal?? Suggestions??

Link exchanges are now almost worthless in building up your natural rankings. The content of your site is king. Incoming links (not link exchanges) are probably the second most important thing. Page titles, meta tags...those are all important as well. Content rich sites with good, relavant incoming links are the ones that perform the best naturally.

Stick around on this site and read postings. You'll learn a lot and there's a lot to learn.
