Why should I need to add the code in my post and in the verification field? Doesn't make sense.

Yes, please add that code to your post. It may help John. I don't know but that's all we can do to help him.

OK guess my post was accepted, but the forum now does not automatically send me to the 2nd page if the post falls on the 2nd page... another broken feature. Now 2 features are broken.

I think we are all sharing the same verification. As soon as a page view is generated by anyone viewing SEF, the code gets reset. Problem is if forums are busy, a new code is generated every second or 2 making it nearly impossible for anyone to post during busy hours. The code that you see has already been changed by the time you are ready to push the submit button despite it showing in the browser window.

Turning off for the time being.
Apparently, the $_SESSIONs are running into one another. I'll look into an alternative

Perhaps you should use a sum like Matt Cutts does. That way you may well eliminate much of the human spam too as most spammers are too stupid to add together 9 and 2.
.....Perhaps not.

Hampstead doesn't 9 and 2 mean that you first put the numbers together, then multiply that number by the first number and then multiply that result by the second number?
So 9 and 2 = 1656

QUICK UPDATE
I'm continuing to monkey with it. Trouble is, we use PHPAcellerator here to cache the programs, templates, and common data. It reduces the server load and makes things nice and quick, but has the nasty side effect that session data isn't unique to the user.
I might go with cookies, and I might go with a database solution (but despise the extra server load there), so once I come up with a solution I'm happy with, I'll let you know.

Or you could go with one verification code that changes every 15 minutes that everyone would use. The same code would show up on all pages for all users for a duration of 15 minutes. That way server load is minimum and it would give users enough time to enter their posts and hit submit before the next code is issued in the next 15 minute block.
It's not perfect though because if a user is posting right at something like 14 minutes and 59 seconds and then a minute later hits submit, the new code would be generated causing the post to not happen and they would need to enter that one instead and hit the post button again.
Just a suggestion .

John, wouldn't cookies be able to be read by a bot if it is programmed to grab cookie code like a browser?

Expanding on that, you could issue a new code every 10 minutes and allow the current and two previous codes to be acceptable. Part of the CAPTCHA robustness though is that you only get "one guess" per code.

I'm not entirely convinced that using a post verification will help stop spamming seeing as one has to be registered to post.
Wouldn't it make more sense to make the registration process more "anti spammer"?
Perhaps the first few posts could only have limited functionality. No ability to drop links for instance.
Am I missing something?
