I agree with the majority that manually submitting your site(s) to the engines should be done manually. But I am wondering as to how you keep track of your suubmissions?

Right now I just use an Excel spreadsheet with the url being submitted, the engine submitted to & the date.

Any tips you can give me to streamline myprocess & become more efficient woudl be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I keep a master spreadsheet and make changes to it as new place to submit become available and wanted (well I try to smile )
on the master I have the main spiders & directories and then the industry specific, local etc directories etc.

So when a new site comes on it is simple to save as newsite-submit.xls.

I set up a sheet then for the short and long title, description & keywords for the new domain.

As I go, I enter in the main area any comments, passwords, the cat or sub cat for directories and the known result ( of the submit.

If the site needs re-submitting for any reason or it doesn't get in I have a record and can add a new field date for the action taken.

It's pretty easy if I stick to it..

Ahhhhh yes, I can see that everyone is rolling their eyes at such a tedious process but I can tell you it works for me..

Hope that helps at least one person smile

I do basically the same thing, except I keep it on paper - I have a heck of a time remembering or taking the time to input the data, but with paper I can just check it off as it's done. (I made an empty spreadsheet and just print it off as needed).

I've tried keeping it up electronically, and still try periodically, but I always manage to get behind on it.

Whew! I'm glad it's not just me. My husband thinks I'm completely nuts because I've got every program imaginable on my machine, but I've still got notes, calendars and charts tacked all over my office walls!

Nope, not just you, 9 times out of 10 it takes longer to get a note in something electronically than it does to jot it down on something and then try finding it! My monitor is covered with post-its and my desk calender is positively filled by the end of the month (one of those big pad ones).

I love post-its! I've actually worked out a color-coding system (not that it would ever make sense to anyone else though). I've got 4 different sizes in 6 different colors. I use those little clear tinted flags a lot, too.

I use a spreadsheet system, too. I set one up for each client with pretty much the same information as excell. I list the search engines I submitted the site to, plus the keywords for each domain that I'm tracking for them. Most of the time I work with them online, but once in a while I'll print them out, write results, and then enter the info back into the spreadsheets online when I have time.

I have a hardcopy Daytimer that's always with me. Filled with notes, appointments, calendar, ToDo list, account info, bookmarks (yes...), etc. I like knowing that if my computer crashes, I don't lose EVERYTHING. smile

oh well I feel better now smile

I thought everyone was scoffing at my out of date ways.

I am in the middle of a "report" would you believe the data consists only of hand researched top 10 rankings on google only.. LOL it's cute but it gives a snap shot to a 3 day old site with about 150 relevant top ten rankings on google..

This in my mind and the odd bent client I can find is much more meaningful that a report done with the press of a button.

PS the biggest win factor that I know is to pass my excitement to the client about their new positions.

Especially when they reach that #1 position in Google. That's a great feeling! smile
