How in the heck do you do this? I figured it would be "edit personal information" under profile, but when I go there, the page that comes up appears to be a registration page -- it asks for a user ID, etc., and when I type in my user ID and password it says the username is already taken. Of course it is -- it's mine!!

Seriously folks, I really think I could learn a lot from this, because I have problems like this in life all the time.... :o)

(Later....)

OK I did some research and I guess I can contact an admistrator to help me out. I'll see if I can figure out how to do this but in the meantime, if anyone knows whom I should contact please do tell! The posts I read were old posts and people may have changed. :o)

Okay, there must have been a glitch, because with my new user ID I go to where I was and the page is all different -- it works now. (Hmmmm.) When I go to change stuff, now the user ID is there already; before it was just a blank space and I thought I was supposed to type stuff in. :o)

Yes, I know I'm silly! But darn it, I'm cute and I deliver pizzas. :o)

[A few minutes later......]

Now it's not working again! Hmmph. I went to change info and where it says user ID, the ID is not there; I'm supposed to type in something, and when I put my ID in and make changes to my info it says "that ID is already taken, you dweeb!"

I tried different browsers and still no luck. :o)

This is becoming a puzzle to me, but that's okay, because puzzles are fun.

Hang on and I'll see if someone can look into it. I don't think it is on your end unless I have the same problem.

Make sure that you're on the right domain.

Reading the forums via jimworld.com, but editing your profile via virtualpromote.com (or the other way around) you might have a cookie mismatch going on.

Double check that you're actually on the right domain when you do it.

Here is the VirtualPromote domain edit profile link.

Here is the JimWorld domain edit profile link.

Try them both and whichever one you are currently logged into should work.

I've just tried both those links and I still can't edit my profile. I suppose I'll just have to live with it now, even though I inadvertently included information that contravenes my country's Official Secrets Act. I just hope that MI5 don't see it. If I don't post again you'll know that I've been sent to the Tower.

If you're not logged in when you click on the link try logging in. Then try the other link and try logging in.

Please post your results back here and if it still doesn't work hopefully jcockos will have other ideas.

Flyingrose, I logged in to each in turn but when I tried to change my details I was presented with the registration form again.

Regards,

Martin.

Hi everyone. Boy, we're ALL screwed up. I kept checking e-mail for responses to this topic but we must not be subscribed to it.

The good thing about mistakes is, what you learn from them sticks out in your mind a whole lot better than when you read about other peoples' mistakes! See, lemon-aide.

Anyway thanks everyone for all the help. It seems there might be a small problem with the site itself, since other people (well, one) are having the same problem? Hmmm.... We use Mac OSX and Safari, Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape. Maybe other people who have problems are using the same configuration?

By the way, we did make sure we were logged in, but the page that came up still appeared to be more of a registration page asking for user ID. :o)

Anyway maybe the problem will just work itself out. Many things in life do. :o)

So we can be assured that you're staring with a totally clean slate ... I need those of you that are having trouble to totally log out by removing all cookies tied to "jimworld.com" and "virtualpromote.com" (both with and without the "www"wink.

For MSIE Users, this is a good tool for this: http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptcookie.asp

Then, close your browser, and come back to the forums:

http://www.virtualpromote.com/apps/webmaster.forums

And login.

Once you login, go to the profile page and try again. Your cookies should all be in alignment, and it should work fine.

I made a cookie format change a few weeks back, so it's very possible that you have TWO cookies from us, and they're conflicting when you get to the profile page. By doing the forible deletion of them, you'll be left, hopefully, with only the correct cookie.

Thanks, and apologies

Deleted my cookies, no dice. When I click on the link to change my profile, I only get a "new registration" form page.

Must be a glitch in the system. We've tried three different browsers, trashing all files in the broswers, resetting, emptying cache, etc. You've been here much longer than we have though so I'm sure you know who cool and helpful the JimWorld people are. :o)

But just remember, for every tiny thing wrong with JimWorld there are 1,000,000 things great about it. I'd consider that a pretty excellent ratio, considering we ARE on Planet Earth! :o)

This has been one of the friendliest forums I've participated in. People whose opinions I differ with don't jump down my throat and try to suggest that I'm insane or that I'm trying to intentionally cause an argument.

I friggin' love this place. :o)

Jackie
