Really donot know if I am posting in the right section. Just want to find out if spams can reduce the performance of a site. How? I made certain changes in my site and since then, the number of spams have increased and the performance has decreased. What can be done?

if the spam is coming fast enough it can use up your server resources. I assume that you talking about comments and forum postings. I use the askismet server to process all postings to prevent spam. It slows the postings down, but I don't have spam postings on my sites.

I have a site that helps generate business. It is not a forum or a blog. The spam is coming really fast. Do adverstisements have a role to play in this? What are the other things that can increase spams and reduce performance?

dont get your point ,if spam bothers you and you think it stops the performance then delete them, and make it harder for the spammers to spam on your site
