I have this website and I put alot of time and effort in it to make it work. I am afraid that some day some hosting compagny might take it over (steal that website from me). What can I do to protect my website from leaving my property?

Make sure the domain is registered with a quality operator, be sure the domain is locked.
And be sure you do not miss the renewal dates.
Finally, if you get registration reminders, be sure they come from YOUR registrar.
But in practice, the risk is tiny; why so concerned?

Sorry but what is a Quality Operator? How do I know if someone is a Quality Operator?
Also, how do I know if a domain is locked?
My website is registered in the Netherlands, so the situation may be different.
I think I want to register a new website with a different domain name and perhaps a different country. If I have 2 identical websites, then if 1 website is hyjacked, I will still have 1 left. What hosting compagny should I take?
Why would I want to protect my website? Well I spent alot of time to make it work well and effort (especially to make it rank well on google). I would find it heartbreaking if someone would take it over.

network solutions would be a quality operator.
many of those 8 dollar a year companies are not. also, many of the ISP's that offer domains (homestead) end up pwning the domain and the cusotmer does not know it until they try to move the site.
cheap does not mean good. cheap means you get as little as possible for as little as possible.
as far as I know you may still have duplication issues with your plan. You also would have to have an address in the country you are registering the domain in.
I also agree, you current risk is little to none.
