I just recently started my Website for "Newbies" and businesses that would like to promote their products/services.

I have been scammed big time in the past 6 months, so I decided to do this Website, but unfortunately I cannot afford to pay to advertise it.

If you have any ideas, Please let me know!

Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

sig as in signature. You signed your name on your post. I got caught with that one too.

Welcome to the forums. If you hang about here for a while you will pick up all you need to know about SEO and you will be able to prepare your own site for being found well in the search engine results pages.

Here's a start for some free ideas:

List your Web site at search engines and directories
List your Web site at malls and various local pages
    Reciprocal links
    Ezine advertising swaps
Write articles and submit them to Web sites and ezines
Have a sweepstakes, contest, trivia game, or other online promotion tool at
your site and announce it everywhere
    Free classified ads
Join topic-related discussion lists and mailing lists
Use sig files at the end of your email messages
    Participate in banner exchanges
    Participate in Web rings
    Utilize topic-related affiliate programs
Local newspaper ads and articles (letter to the editor on some topic, whatever)
Network with your local Chamber of Commerce

I find that writing articles and becoming a known subject-matter expert has worked wonders for many small businesses. Many sites are constantly looking for fresh content, and if they accept your articles, you'll get a by-line and a link to your site. This will help drive traffic to your site and futher enhance the popularity by providing additional links to your site.

Pretty good list there by WinningWays.

While not free, another one that can be fairly low cost is putting your URL out where people can see it. Put it on the back of your car. smile If you have a an interesting or descriptive domain name, people will remember it later.

I've gotten decals made for the car for $5 - $10.

I have written a article on this I would love to get some feed back on this.

For someone who is starting a web based business one of the biggest challenges is getting traffic to their web site.
Here are a few of my favorite ways of bring visitors to my web site.

12.) Posting ads through yahoo groups or Topica .com are good easy ways of telling people about
your web site. It is important however to use a good headline to get readers interested. Hundreds of people post
advertisements so it is best to have something that stands out from the crowd. Be creative if you are posting about
work at home opportunities you might want to have a title that sounds interesting. Try "Sexy opportunities to work at home."

11.) Traffic generators are a good way of getting hits. Since you can post your link for free. I recommend signing up for more than one at a time. Use a doorway page like this [link]/empo.html]link[/url]]
This happens to be a free networking magazine link. People love to get free items. As you know free items can lead to sales latter on for you. Most people are surfing to build up credits to promote their sites they don't really care about the sites they see. If you are going to use this method give them something difficult to turn down. Here is a list of sites that I have used in the past.[link]/freeads.html]link[/url]]

10.)Free Classifieds are another way to get visitors to your web site. I use Craigslist, and classifiedsforfree. The important thing here is to make it short and sweet. I recommend a Google adword size

9.) Reciprocal linking is always a way to generate traffic. I find the best place to get reciprocal links is from forums. There are software programs where you can get an automated system of picking good sites to link to. They even will send out an email to the owner of the sites for you.

8.) Forums or bulletin boards are great ways to get visitors. They can take up a lot of your time, they can also bring in a continuous stream of visitors. If you have good answers to questions and have interesting contributing information, you might see some very good traffic coming your way from the forums.

7.) Submit your urls to search engines. It is a good idea to submit your url to search engines once a week or when you edit your web site. This believe it or not will help your ranking on the search engines. Try this link to submit your url for free to several different popular search engines. [link]

6.) Articles are great ways to get traffic. However it is important to have a good title to get readers interested in reading your articles. I have a list of good article directories that I use to submit my articles. [link]/freeads.html]link[/url]]

5.) Ebay is another great way to drive in free targeted traffic. That's right you can add your link to your auction page. For more information about this product, or to see more pictures please visit [link] .

4.) Add fresh new content to your web site. This content will get picked up by the search engine spiders. I have written articles that have been posted on the first pages of the search engines. These article do bring in incredible amounts of visitors. It is important to focus on key words, and phrases when you write your articles. Make it a point to write an article not an advertisement. It is also helpful to have a title that has targeted key words in them. For example I wrote an article titled "My review of the Plug-in Profit Site". When person did a search on Plug in Profit Site they would see a link to my article on the first page of the search results.

3.) Offline promotion is an excellent way to get free traffic. It also cuts out all of the on-line competition. I can purposely place flyers in front of people who would be most likely to buy my products. From posting flyers at the supermarket to posting on a telephone poles. I also have a sticker on the back window of my Subaru. What else do you have to look at when you are sitting at a red light behind my car. Why not give people something to ponder as the sit behind you. Home business opportunities WWW.INTERNET5KINCOME.COM HMM I will have to check this site out when I get home. It does happen, trust me I know it does.

2.) Use an email signature file. A Sig file is a short blurb about your web site or product followed by a link to your web site. You would be surprised by how far an email can travel. So if you are creative, and you can come up
with one of those emails that everyone just loves to forward. Send them out with your sig file. If you need help finding good content to send out try this link [link]

1.)The number one way to drive free traffic ....[link]/freetraffic.html This link is not working at this time. But it will we a jpg file of a race car with a .com ad on itsmile

Print some t-shirts and merchandise with your URL on them. Hand them out to friends. May not be free but it's far from expensive.

If you do run competitions, send them a few stickers or a t-shirt along with their prize.

Allow people to showcase their work on your website. I.e. If you were running a photography website you could have picture of the day. alternatively you could have an option for your reader to submit their articles to you for publication (in exchange for a link to their website from yours).

Make a questionnaire that is funny/interesting, to encourage people to pass the link on to their freinds.

Interaction is a good way to encourage visitors. Look at your competition... What are they offering? What could be beter about their websites?

Making a members area would encourage people to keep coming back too wink
