I'm wondering which is more effective for driving actual traffic to a site. My impression is that neither works particularly well for site traffic, but are useful for search engine ranking, credibility, and getting qualified leads. What have your experiences been?

Unless your press release is extremely eye catching and grabs the readers attention, I have found that they mostly get thrown in the bin. Articles can bring plenty of visitors to your website. Just make sure that the articles are relevant to your website.
