I feel rather silly asking this question but after several days of hair pulling and no success, I submit rolleyeys

I have always built up traffic through SEO methods.

However I now find myself in a different position.

A prayer site for soldiers and their family. The site will take prayer requests as well as is asking for prayerful people.

    Now my issue is:

The site is 99% empty without requests, so that is the first job I need to do - get requests.

HOW???? All the prayer forums won't let me post the URL, the yahoo type groups won't let me post a message about the new site, and I can't add more content and do the SEO thing with out prayer requests - as the requests will be THE content.. make sense?

Getting the people to agree to pray is not an issue, many churches have said they will spread the word AFTER requests are posted. The military chaplains have also told me they too will spead the word AFTER they can see and approve some of the sites content - ie. requests.

Help ! I listed the site in my profile.

hi beth you mean you want the site to get more visitors? about those forums maybe you dont need to drop the link there just tell and explain about the site there and what it stands for, and if you say its 99% without requests maybe you can search on what keywords people search online for thats related to it and just add them to your site, and in my opinion add some more effects to it such a banner, graphics etc....

Thanks animated - yeah I know the window dressing is not much to look at right now - I have been putting all my efforts into getting the prayer requests sent to us - which of course first means visitors.

Your key word idea is a good one - Thanks.

Church's and Military Chaplains and such all say once the site is "alive" they will be happy to spread the word, but I need the word spread to get it to come alive - what a twist lol wink

have you ever thought about using social media to advertise it as it's...social? smile

It sounds like it has potential for the snowball effect (once it gets moving, it just gets bigger and bigger). As shady-like it may sound (for not being 'real' content) but ask some friends to post on it, some of your friends may write some good content for it given it's target.

I have read a lot about the social media - I myself have not done anything with it. Any tips on how/where to get started?

    Thanks Dubibob smile

beth, i go through this all of the time, and the clients always think the whole world will drop whatever they are doing and flock to their site.

how to you get content without people and how do you get people without content. ARGH!, the chicken and the egg thing.

I think one thing that would help is to add more functionality so that when they get to the site there is something to do.

there are also outsourcing companies that will seed the site for you, usually about .40 to .60 cents a posting or profile

you can also start a group on facebook or myspace and direct people to your site from that.

    Thanks again mj smile

working with a low - very low ( read zero ) budget this would not be possible.

What led to this site is on May 31st my 19 year old step son was in the Army and had a suicide bomb vehicle sent into his humvee and he lost 1/2 of his brain, yes the whole left side is gone and here we are 100+ days later and he is now trying to talk, giving people high fives and such - a long road yet to travel but we have seen the miracles of prayer and want to pass this along smile
