Hello,
I am wondering if there is any possible harm done if I use automated scripts to sumit my site to major search engines.
I have found many providers with links like "Submit free to 1500 engines" etc. Should I use them ?
Please do advise.

I can't tell you for a fact not to auto submit. But I wouldn't recommend it. I feel it is better to stay on the good side of directories. If you hand submit to many directories, pretty much all the SE will pick you up. I personally would recommend manual submission to as many directories as possible. If you don't have the time, I sujest paying a student. That IMHO.
Cheers

Not too good an idea. Now you don't know who you have and have not submitted with.
I would not submit again to anywhere for quite some time (12 months, maybe). I would concentrate on getting a few inbound link from other sites elsewhere as many search engines will follow these links and get you in from there.
Note that there are not 1500 directories and engines that are worth being listed in. The top 10 will bring 99.9% of your traffic.
