Curious about the value of buying links from a site. Here's the details:

* 1000 links - one from each page of the site in the footer
* all pages are PR5 or better
* site is not relevant to my site
* image based links only
* the link would have a "title" attribute that is keyword rich.

So, would these backlinks have a major impact on results across the major engines? Would these links count as highly as text based links? What would be a fair price per link per month?

Never really had this type of link purchase before, not sure what to make of it.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

This amount is still undecided. I think they are thinking about $2 per link/month. I have some good profit in some sites so if this can help me get better rankings for more competitive keywords it may be worth $2K per month.

Some competitors are in the top 5 with not very good on-page seo work but they have hundreds of backlinks. Many of these links from blog spam and irrelevant sites.

So, the question remains, will this type of backlink deal benefit me enough (in terms of better se positions) to justify the cost?

i think there is some limit on the amount of good multiple links from the same site does

other wise people could jsut write scripts that generate millions of pages and put their links all over all of them

so don't equate 1000 links from one site as the same as 1000 links from a 1000 sites

I agree with ferret.

Also don't forget it could (and will) take months for those pages to be re-indexed to recognize the links to your site.

So...IF you do it, you may want to try to stipulate $2 for links recognized as back links?!?

I would stay away from '1000 links on one site'. Especially if you buy them. Google is cracking down on paid links like this, and it's actually better now to get 1 link from the site rather than 1000 links from the same site.

you asked "Would these links count as highly as text based links?

No they will not.

A few more things to think about.

Does each link have to point to the same page?

Does the ALT text have to all be the same all the links?

How many other external links are on these pages?

Thanks for the comments. It certainly gives me something to think about.

To address TN Todds thoughts:

* The links will all point to the same page

* The alt text and href title will be the same

* There are very few external links (less than 10)

This is not a typical "paid link" type site. It's a non-profit that is looking for additional revenue to sponsor the site as a test. The links would be added to a .php footer that is common across all pages.

Maybe Google is cracking down but I am not too worried about Google these days. More thinking about Yahoo and like I said, the competition is only beating me by shear link volume, not on page seo in my opinion, and many of these links are from multiple pages on one domain. Just trying to figure a way to get one step ahead of poor sites with thousands of low quality inbound links.

One last question / comment.

Look under most SEO related keyphrases in Yahoo for instance and there is one site that does very well. Obviously a pro, but the big thing is there are over 80,000 backlinks to the site. Havent done a lot of digging to check the links out, but it seems like that is a tough deal to get that many links by hand. Is there a secret formula to get the links without investing tens of thousands of hours??? Seems to me that there has to be multiple links from same domains and some blog spam or something going on.

Yes. Build a great site that's a great resource and the best in your topic area and everyone will link to you.

If their an SEO company it's probably pretty easy to add a link to the bottom of each page they work on. It wouldn't take long.

Not really for the kind of links they are.

Take a look at the bottom of this page

webtechniques.com/

I doubt links like this have much real merit. I also firmly believe this is spam and will soon be filtered by google and the better search engines.

I agree that this may be considered spam by many, but ultimately the guys getting good results in a pretty competitive area. That would lead me to believe that these links do have some merit. Any semi-competent person can nail the on-page criteria, it's the links that take you to the next level.
