Apologies to all if this subject has been previously covered - I have looked through loads of old threads and not found the answer to me query...
I have a client who wants to have his site optimised and therefore listed on the top search engines (i.e not just Google). The only problem is that it is entirely written in Shockwave.
I was therefore hoping some of you guys could give me a tip of the best way of doing this; using <no script> tags or would I be better off creating a html page with light content, tags and keywords etc. with say a half second redirect to the .swf page(s)? Or both? Is the redirect page SEO friendly (i.e will it get blocked?)
Sorry if this is an blaringly obvious question/answer - I'm a newbie here....

A meta redirect is seen as spam by search engines. People register hunderds of domains and meta refresh them all to one place. I would avoid a meta refresh.
I don't do Flash. At all. However, I do know that Google can now index the text inside flash files, and has done so for many months.
There is an article called flashsatay that has some useful tips in it. Google for that, and see if it gets you started.

Thanks g1smd, much appreciated.
I must admit, I had come across the Google solution but it was more for the likes of Yahoo!, MSN etc. that I was more concerned and this solution hasn't been implemented by these engines yet...unless somebody else knows any different?

There are many solutions for this. One of the most common tricks is to use <noembed> tag to pass on URLs which will otherwise be hidden from a Shockwave-challenged Robot. Add a few lines of keyword rich body text along between the noembed tags.
But the best solution is a bit technical. Sniff out the Browser type and deliver pages accordingly. If the browser (includes the Search engine robots) is incapable of 'parsing' the Shockwave files, then deliver plain HTML pages.
It all depends on the individual situation.

These are good suggestions and our techie guys are pretty happy with the solutions. I'll raise a new thread with any thoughts or discoveries when we implement.
Many thanks guys!
