I was just wondering how I would go about submitting a company website to just the major search engines like google yahoo msn etc. with out having to pay hundreds or thousands for someone to do it for me. I want it were when someone types in the like 10 main keywords the companys name pops up as a possibility

    Hello, Dana.

I'm just learning these things, myself.

One way to start is to submit to Dmoz. Also Yahoo. Follow their instructions. You can submit manually to Google and Alta Vista, etc., but apparently they pick up your site when it is listed in Yahoo and Dmoz. You will need links from other websites that have a similar theme to yours. You will also need to have good content on your site which is rich in the keywords that you want people to use when they search for sites like yours. It's a good idea to have keywords for the title of each page. That page will concentrate on giving information about that keyword.

You will need to be patient because it can take months before your site is listed.

You'll soon be getting responses from more experienced members who will give you more information.

    Good luck.

    Regards,

    Martin.

    >> ... go about submitting ... to just the major search engines like google yahoo msn etc <<

You don't need to submit at all. They find you.

Make sure that you have a couple of pages elsewhere, ones that are already indexed, that link to you.

Google, for example, will then find you within a few days; the others shortly after.

You only need to submit to directories, not search engines.

g1smd is right. Make sure you have a few websites that have a link to your site and the search engines will find you.
