why would anyone do that? Why is that recommendation posted here ukdollar? When you read the question and previous post again - do you think that was a great post? - given the arena? Are these forums & peoples not good enough for you that you have to send folks elsewhere?
Or is it just that you are incapable of answering a question here?

These forums and people are good enough. But does it mean that folks shouldn't go elsewhere and gain more knowledge?
When you read the question and previous post again - do you think that was a great post?
excell, do you think that your above post is a greate post?
aamir, Jill's articles are good for you to learn some basic. Read them and ask your doubts here.

Now everybody, let's play nice. Just for the record, this community isn't insecure and we don't pretend there aren't other fantastic resources out there to visist and learn from, in fact we encourage it.
I think what excell rightly reacted to was ukdollar not making any effort to answer the poster within this community first, either by a direct answer or a link to one of many threads with excellent information. In general it is best to keep the learning experience here in the community as much as possible as it enables the community to broaden it's knowledge base and encourage members to interact with each other. Sending people away without any effort is easy but it doesn't add any value to the community.
That is what we discourage, we don't want people not getting the help here first. If the information isn't available here then by all means please help members by linking to other resources or suggesting them. Try to understand this is a community and we try to build it up as a knowledge base first and foremost.
To answer the original poster, there is certainly a great deal of information to learn, but none of it is very difficult. What you need to understand is that it takes time to rank well in search engines in almost every case. Quick fixes just do not exist, it takes hard work and determination to have a web site with the potential to rank well. There is only one thing you need to have amazing search engine rankings and that is content. Content is king, everything else follows content.
What you need to do is be very sure of who your target customers/visitors for your web site will be. Once you know this you can then start to plan on what type of content you can offer that will make these people want to visit and stay on your web site. So many new web site owners do not put any real thought into content, they think content means a brief description of an item or service for sale and then an add to cart button.
When I say content I mean more than just the minimum text to sell an item. For instance, if you sell baby clothing items then adding content about baby proofing your house, or reviews of some baby monitors. Add extra value, make your web site a resource. If you aren't an expert in your field find somebody who is that produces articles that you can post on your web site with permission. Add content! If you have quality, well planned content that is relevant to your customers then you have a great starting point.
Once you have good content others will want to link to your web site because it adds value to their web site visitors. This is what the Internet was meant for, to interlink and share resources. If you ignore this fact and think that real content is to much trouble then do not be surprised when good rankings elude you. Content will always be king, it will always work and it will always outperform even the most elaborate scheme to gain rankings without work. Do content and enjoy.

Just for the record all - my response was because I agreed with Hampstead! I think everyone should read widely and should be familiar with Jill's writings and a lot of other great articles etc.
However there is nothing like getting real time help with areas you don't understand.. aamir_seo after you have looked around, feel free to join in or ask any questions you might have.
Also, if you put your website URL in your profile it will help members to answer

PageRank is unimportant. Don't go chasing the number in the GreenBar. It really is unimportant.
Links from related and relevant websites is what you need. That will do you far more good.

Agreed, I try to ignore pagerank and focus on content. I have a client that sits with a pagerank of 5 only, but since posting tons of content, updated on a regular basis, his traffic and business has risen by well over a 1000%! That is all thanks to content. Every month he posts a book review, an article, a top ten tips list, and a what's new page.
I used the Curious_Mark handle as when I was a child I loved the story of Curious George the monkey. My wife would tell you I'm still a child . And thank you for the compliments, you are all very kind. I can't lie, it is nice to hear positive feedback, we all need some.
