Hi,

A site having dedicated IP will help or effect anything in search engine rankings as well in any other ways? Similarly having common Ip will affect our site in search engines for any factors?

Looking for expert suggestions....

Regards,
Thomas

There is little difference between the two - with one real exception...

If a site used the IP address you are on (shared), and they were caught spamming and were penalized, there *could* be an issue for you.

But, if the site that was spamming and your site have nothing in common (different topic, different content, etc.), then you should be fine.

Having said that, I personally prefer dedicated IP addresses for my sites, but sometimes it's just not possible with how IP addresses are allocated in hosting accounts. I have one on a dedicated IP, the rest are shared on my other two IP addresses...

Best bet is to use a tool ( http://www.arin.net/whois/ maybe?) to dig up some data on who the IP is registered to and which sites might be assigned to it - from there, do some research on any sites sharing the IP addy with your own and see if they are OK or shady...

It all depends on a host of factors. There are hosts who pile a few hundred sites onto a single IP. If one of them in your neighborhood is caught spamming, there is an enhanced risk that the entire IP will be penalized. At least the mails emanating from a blocked or black-listed site/IP can come to haunt you.

I would be careful about my neighborhood.
