If we are moving from abc.com to xyz.com. Currently both sites have exactly the same content. Can i move at least some of the search engine indexing from abc.com to xyz.com using redirects. Can i get same traffic at xyz.com? What techniques should i follow to get at least maximum traffic from abc.com to xyz.com?

In case you are completely moving from abc.com to xyz.com and both the sites have similar(almost) pages, IMHO you should redirect each and every web page from abc.com to its respective similar page on xyz.com. In this way you must get most of the traffic of abc.com on xyz.com.

Redirect all the web pages only through 301 permanent redirection technique.

All the best.

Nvish - By having 2 versions of your site (same pages over different URLs) you are already hurting your rankings on both sites. Do what akash said and get those pages redirected

A site-wide path-preserving set of 301 redirects is what you require.

Don't forget to fix things for both the non-www and the www version too.
