Suppose I were to link a bunch of my websites to one of my long tail sites (so that the number of link-tos jumps from, say, zero to five). Would the search engines pick up that these websites were from the same person?

On a similar note (once again, for long-tails), could a group of people do a run a bunch of searches and clicks in order to raise the page-rank? In other words, if thrice a day I run a keyword search on google and only click on my website, would that help the website significantly? (Again this would be for a keyword search that is rarely used)

stop trying all this rubbish and read up on what do properly.
What you're suggesting about the clicks wont do a thing anyway.. Read up, and optimise your site naturally, technically correct, and with informative content. You'll get better results and you wont get slated in forums... you wont get banned by google either.
