Is there any other way an RSS feed containing products can be utilised for site promotion? This is someting i've not really looked into before to be honest...

There are many ways of promoting RSS feeds. One that comes to mind is to actively encourage other thematically connected sites to show the results of the feed (you would need a script to display the first few results with Title & description).

I have noticed this for a technical blog hosted in one of our servers. They get a bulk of their traffic from the search engines and the remaining coming in from "other" sources. The other sources provided them with about 200,000 page views for one month alone. The interesting point is until a few months ago, this was barely a few thousands. After they notched up their activities on RSS, this section soared.

They appear to have set up elaborate means to deliver their feed.

I suppose you have done the obvious - submitting to RSS directories ( quite a lot) to gain the extra visibility. smile

not yet, as i say RSS promotion is completely new to me. I know i can submit to RSS directories, but given that the feed is pure products, do i need particular ones? Are there any big ones i should go to first?

A Search in your favorite search engine should give you plenty.

The following is just a basic list:

Syndic8
Technorati
YahooRss
Search4Rss
rssfeeds
Feed Burner
Findrss
Feedshark
Jordomedia
