Hi,
i just learned that each meta - keyword should also appear in the body of the "page". Unfortunately they do not appear in my index.htm but in *.htm files reachable from there by links. Are those meta - keywords ignored at all ? Are those links followed by the search engines in order to trap the meta - keywords ?

For example look at our page www.ifp-beisch.com

I cannot believe it to be neccessary to put hidden text into the index.htm file.

In an effort to keep our doorways small, I'm wondering if these two lines of code are necessary.

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 Final//EN">

and

<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">

If I leave these out, will it have a negative effect on ranking or even being listed at all? I have seen a number of top sites that don't have them but then I thought they might be cloaking so I wanted to make sure first.

I've been looking for a new hosting firm and have found one I like. The only problem is it accepts adult sites. I've heard that being on a server that also has adult sites can hurt you with the search engines. Is that true?

Hello,

I think that these forums are great. While I have learned a lot from reading, there is still a lot I'm missing.

Now, for my situation/dilemma . . .

I have a site that I previously submitted to various search engines months ago. Earlier this year I revised the entire site. Then, on 2-10, I used Jim's Tools to submit just the index page of the updated site.

Soon after submitting the site, I received a number of visitors gaged by the number of emails I received. However, now, it seems that that I get little response.

My web host does supply traffic information. They provide charts with Hits, Files, Pageviews, Sessions, and KBytes Sent. While I'm not sure what it all means, I do know the bigger the numbers, the better. While the statistics did bump up at the end of February they are now declining.

I have gone to several search engines in an attempt to find my site. In some, like HotBot, I have found pages with the new descriptions. In others, like AltaVista, I have found just the index page with the old description. And in still other search engines, like Google, it says my site is not listed at all.

For the search engines that do not have my site listed, is it safe to re-submit? Or, could there be some problem/reason why it is not listed?

For the search engines that only have my index page with the old description, is it safe to re-submit?

Even in the search engines that have the new pages, I don't rank very well. Should I revise the pages and then re-submit?

How often should I re-sbumit? Would re-submitting do any good or would it be harmful if I have not made any changes?

I have only submitted the index page. Should I submit several of the main pages or just the index page?

I feel like a deer caught in the headlights. I know I've got to do something but I'm afraid to move.

Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated.

I would put Metas on each and every page of your site, so when the engine spiders, it will index all your pages with the right info, allowing people to find your site through the other pages. That way, if your index.html doesn't have all the pieces to come up in the engine, the others will.

On my page, I simply put some intro text, and filtered my keywords into the text. Perhaps you can pick 3 to 5 major keywords, and filter them in on the first page. :~)

Others in here are FAR more knowledgable than me... I'm just learning, myself. :~)

Good luck!

Depends if the site owners that share an IP with you are spamming or not/have been banned - can happen with any server and any subject matter.

I suppose you could take a look for sites on that server in different engines and see how they fare....

hey nice site! you might try indenting the text in the middle to separate it out a little so its easier to read, maybe add a couple lines above your text and stuff too. I think I'd probably make the light blue bars on the top smaller, they're a little distracting when you're looking at the site. welcome to the forums.

Generally better when the keywords in your tags follow through into the page content. I tried to look at your site and got a 404 three times. There is lots of valuable info on hidden text here in the forums if you do a search for "hidden text" and read up.

I also suspect that, if any sites on the server get a lot of traffic, it'll slow your site down.

It sounds like you might want to place a good site tracker on your web site to help you define what search engines and directories are sending you traffic.

There are a number of good ones available for free.

Definatly get your keywords into the page content - metas alone won't cut it.

Stopped by site and found that you are using frames. I recommend doing a search on these forums for the <noframes> info. You'll find some excellent tips on how to leverage frames to your advantage in the SEs.

Good luck.

The biggest risk is that the site blocking services will most likely block access to the entire server. They don't have the time or ethical standards to do what they say they do, so they just block everything they come across. It is next to impossible to get them to unblock you, frequently even once you move to a different server.

Handling things like that implies a willingness to do a job right. They are too lazy to even do it wrong.

Thanks for your advise, JuniorHarris!

"I'm don't understand how the emails gauge the traffic unless these are visitors who send them."

That's exactly what I meant.

". . .without having detailed stats/logs you may not know that."

In addition to the graphical information about my site, the host does provide a log subdirectory. I do know that logs are basically records of visitors to your site, including spiders from search enagines. However, the only experience I have had with logs is bring them inside to put in the fireplace. I have seen posts from others discussing various software to analyze logs. Anyone have a recommendation for a beginner?

Thank you for your help.

Just a couple things:

-Use Arial or Verdana as your font, easier on the eyes.
-Use a bgcolor other than gray.. please
