Our organization needs to purchase SEO SW and we have narrowed it down to WebCEO or WPG2...from your experience what would you suggest and why???

I would suggest WebCEO - the information the various modules generates is generally much clearer and easier to digest. A word of warning though, I wouldn't use a piece of software to do all your SEO work.

I can't really say go with WebCEO, but I can recommend not going with WPG -- I got it years ago, and while it is decent for learning what to look out for, I have had very little use for out outside of doing a rankings check now and then (and even that is formatted really poor, not printer friendly).

Can you give us more insight into what you want to use the program for? That might impact the feedback and suggestions you get. Or, it might help folks suggest some other software tools that would also meet your needs.

Has Web Position Gold added any search engines to their list and if so what ones?

I have been using WPG for about a month now.

1. The reporter is good but I like WebCEO better - And it's free :@)
2. The page generator is a useful training tool.
3. The page critic seems to give bad advice. I followed what it said to the letter and only got rankings of 25 - 100. The top 10 pages had hundreds of errors when I gave them the page critic test. IMHO this proves it doesn't work.
4. The submitter is useless. All of the major SEs have bitmaps.

I don't use the other things. I also think that it's expensive.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Adrian Smith

I would never use WEB CEO or WPG for any reporting - it is against all search engines TOS, including Google's.

There are plenty of good alternatives.

PM me if you want to hear of a few.

Hy,
Rustybrick you are absolutely right - "it is against all search engines TOS, including Google's".
There are 2 good alternatives on the internet:
Advanced Web Ranking
Agent Web Ranking
Bouth sofwares emulates a manual search through search engines and produces reliable and accurate positioning reports with ought upset Google.

Web Position Gold was great a few years ago but honestly its a toy today.

Most search engines require manual or human interaction for proper submission and Tracking URL's via an automated process angers the Google Gods.

Try to find software titles that you fuzzy logic for tracking / Submissions should be done by hand.

Thats what you are paid to do, not rely on some tool to do it for you and spam some Search engine with URLs that "might" be going into the proper catagory or include the right amount of information and copy.

I was originally using WPG2's page critic to analyze my site's keyword density, prominence, etc, and followed their suggestions to the letter. Last year, it worked great - I had #1 rankings across Google and many other engines. Last couple months, though, things have progressed just like AdrianSmithUK said - a lot of my rankings are in the 25 - 100 range, now.

I used to use WPG religiously and it worked great -- as others have said, they have lost ground. I still use the Page Critic with the knowlege base turned off. The Critic is a very efficient tool for comparing a page against the top 3, top 2 top 10 ranking sites. The comparisons give a starting place...

To me, both of them offers sufficient features. So, I would randomly pick one or based on customer service.

Web CEO's service is superior. Their support call themselves angels - they must be angels indeed - once I was attacking with emails for two weeks (my problem was caused by firewall) - and they were carefully and aptly responding to all of my messages. Unfortunately I can't say anything about WPG's service as I am Web CEO user.

Why in the world would someone recommend WEb CEO other than the industry's standard and the BEST WPG 3? WPG 3 is the best so far. I think it's enhanced version is the best it has wordtracker to search for keywords and Web Trends for tracking traffic. Could someone please look into it. WPG 3 is also recommended by Corey Rudl from marketingtips.com the best SEO software.
