Can anyone explain if/how Yahoo indexes sites that use sessionID's in their URLs?
Specifically:
Are these pages looked at in a negative light?
Will multiple copies of the same page be indexed?
I ask because we have a site that has over 40,000 pages indexed, but they probably only have about 1,500 actual pages. We believe there are multiple copies included and that this is affecting the rankings in a negative manner.
Any comments or reference points are appreciated.
Thanks.

Most crawlers try and avoid URLs with session IDs in order to prevent re-spidering the same page over and over, so it surprises me to hear that Yahoo may be doing this - session IDs are usually a sure way to restrict being spidered - unless you employ a work-around for spiders.
But if they have done this, duplicate filters should kick in and only 1 page should be in the listings (or they may frown upon the site).
I would look for ways of stripping out the session IDs for spider visits to prevent this problem.
