Ok, I'm a gamer, and I surf alot of gaming sites, and have my little gaming site in the corner of the net dedicated to the game I'm going to play.I hit: allrpg, adrenaline vault, battle vortex, bluenews, elited, all the gamename sites (gamethis, gamethat (yadda yadda), stratics etc et all. I notice all these sites run the same news but change the storyline. So my question is, that I'm looking for help on: Where do all these folks get the news? Are they all just cut and pasting from one guy? SOme of these sites have up to 20 articles per day, being posted by one person. Is there a AP type site that they all join a mail list to and cut and post what they want? They are not subscribging to multi-gaming company lists are they? I figured Bio would be able to answer this, but when I tried mailing him, I got this mail responder directing to an addy thats being rejected, so was hoping someone else could answer. Whats the secret to this? Thanks Div

Guys, I need your experienced help!I have an advertiser (ticket agency) interested in placing a banner on my site. I would earn money from this banner from the amount of clickthroughs (CPC) to their site. Question is: How do I calculate a good value for the clickthrough? I can tell you that I receive approx. 200,000 page views a month and approx. 80,000 uniques. I also have another ticket agency advertise on my site (although this is an affiliate link) and I provide them with a 5% CTR on the banner + text link. Which in my opinion is pretty high. Cheers.

It seems to me that they might want to tell you how much they will pay you. They know how many tickets they sell per click thru to their site, so they would be able to determine that by looking at their conversion rate.On the other hand, if you really want to determine how much to charge them, then you could "guesstimate" and figure it out. For example: They make $10 for every sale (each ticket sold). On average they get 1 in 500 clicks from your site buys 2 tickets (making them $20). If they paid you .01 cent per click, then they would be paying you $5 when they make $20. If you estimate how much they make per sale, guess how many sales they make per 500 clicks (for example), you'll be able to determine a fair price.

I think I'm qualified to answer that. There are a gazillion and one game sites out there now. It is hard building a 'real one', and it takes a lot of work. Contacts are the key. Most of the popular sites have direct contact with the game companies daily, and get their news from them directly. The smaller sites then usually 'use' that information. I have several contacts with game companies, and they are as good as gold. Once you get those contacts they usually send out press releases about news. Getting an interview is much easier. On the other hand companies are very reluctant to add sites to their contact lists unless they are very popular sites for the exact reason that there are just sooo many game sites. By the way your site looks really good. Keep up the good work. Good luck Div!

Okay, that all sounds like good advice.I suppose I shall have to wait and see what their offer turns out to be and whether it is anything like what I perceive the amount should be. It's all very exciting this isn't it?

Another idea might be to try a few searches on Goto.Com and see what people are currently paying per click-through for your sort of traffic. For example, I took a quick look and saw that advertisers are paying up to 60 cents for "plane tickets", 1.03 for "tickets", and 1.61 for "travel". Targetted traffic like this is pretty valuable. - Simon
