Heard that the reason the dance has been delayed is that Google is having difficulty in updating the directory from DMOZ the problem being with DMOZ. Can anyone confirm this or have been told the same thing.

I think the only people that could confirm a rumor like that would be the engineers at Google, and they aint talking.

Doesn't make sense.

First.. the directory has been messed up for months.

2nd, the 3 million urls in the ODP is a mere blip in relation to the billions that is in the Google database.

3rd, the directory is a completely different stand-alone database.

DMOZ has nothing to do with the monthly update. They are 2 different things. Tho they could delay the monthly update if they are updating the Directory first. Just a thought.

The best anyone (except Google) can do is make an eductated (or not so educated) guess.

Unfortunately the 'bat phone' is down or I'd call Google for an update wink

The pattern use to be appx 28 days from the End of the last dance to the beginning of the next one. There is no law or rule that states that Google has to follow this pattern however.

Consider, they just bought Blogger and are working on incorporating it into their server setup. This could cause a delay. They could also be adjusting algo's, etc. Any adjustment tends to cause a delay as well. The guy who pushes the 'Update' button could be on vacation - or on his/her way to SES. They could be sitting in their offices having a good laugh on everyone worrying about the update.

Just my opinion wink but what is not opinion is the fact that there is nothing anyone of us can do about the update - except place bets on when it will start.

Sooo, my bet is .. oh that's right. I don't care when it updates, I just know that it will so I'm gonna spend my time working on my sites and playing with my daughter.

[stupid typos]

I have heard (sorry I cant back it up by facts) that Google are under investigation in the US for having a too great monopoly power, changing income streams for e-commerce companies by $ 0 to $$millions and back to $ 0 again with every update. Maybe they are laying low with any new updates until the dust settles and they are cleared of the monopoly (or something like that...) accusations?

Have a hard time with this - no way it wouldn't be public knowledge.

Becareful how much stock you put into what you *hear* it could just be wishful thinking.

There are some calling for this kind of action but I have not seen anything to prove it's been taken. I doubt it will anytime soon either.

Not to get off topic here, but how, what, when, where whatever did someone come up with the idea that Google is too much of a monopoly and needs to be regulated. Of all the hairbrain, retarded ideas I have ever heard, that one takes the cake. I feel like I am going to hyperventilate whenever I hear even the possible wisper that the US goverment is thinking about doing this. which means I can only post regarding this matter once a month, or I may actually have a heartattack smile

side note: It's great to see that capitalism and free enterprise reign in the US. Luckily Bush is too busy making enemies with every other country in the world while trying to blow up another country, hopefully this whole google/monopoly crap slips under the radar.
